Long Term Care (LTC) and BC Cannabis (BCCS) Trends Discussion
I had an amazing discussion with Janelle on Sunday April 30, 2023. Our conversation started at 11:00am and then suddenly it was 12:30pm! It was as if no time had passed by at all.
LTC and BCCS, while very different (Health Care vs Retail) the recent switch from in-person to virtual was a common theme in both our industries. Additionally, both industries have government oversight, mature or even majority pre-retirement employees that are the primary workforce.
Four trends in clinical healthcare that Janelle spoke to included interdepartmental staffing practices, technological literacy, and how VR and AI are emerging technologies in the industry. I am very interested in AI so when Janelle had mentioned the nurse-to-patient ratio was 1-25 or in some cases 1-150 and mentioned that many of the treatment plans she creates which can take a significant portion of a nurses time have similar components across all the patients I suggested using AI to generate these treatment plans because given the aging baby-boomer population the ratio of nurses to patients is only going to increase. I encouraged her to by curious of AI, but reassured her that AI will never replace the care and confort a human nurse provides.
The two biggest trends in BCCS are:
- Government regulations and restrictions
- The quality of online facilitated training.
Due to the speed of implementation of online learning my team needs to consult the customers and review online training delivery practices to verify the quality of the learning experience.
The Cannabis Act review happening in fall 2023, and the potential changes that the Federal Government could implement has the whole industry on hold until there is a clear picture of the BC and Canadian Cannabis industry.
We closed off our conversation discussing the importance and value of chatting and brainstorming ideas, especially in an asynchronous setting. It was a pleasure meeting Janelle virtually. I left our discussion feeling energized and I am so glad that our paths crossed Janelle. Thank you.
As always, Never Stop Learning!
